Typhoid fever is a bacterial infection caused by Salmonella Typhi. It commonly spreads through contaminated water, unhygienic food, poor sanitation, or contact with an infected person. Eating outside food from unsafe sources and poor hand hygiene are common causes.
Common symptoms of typhoid include persistent fever, weakness, headache, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, constipation or loose motions, and body ache. Some patients may also develop severe weakness and dehydration.
Diagnosis is done through blood tests such as CBC, Widal test, Typhi Dot, and when needed, blood culture. Early diagnosis is very important because untreated typhoid can lead to serious complications.
Treatment includes proper antibiotics, hydration, rest, light diet, and fever management. Self-medication should be avoided, as wrong treatment can worsen the infection and delay recovery.
